About Us
How we came to be...
Singers and Stompers is the brainchild of sister-brother team, Jess and
Ben Thompson.
Ben is a life-long musician; Jess is a life-long educator. Together they
bring the perfect mix of experience, creativity, planning, and playing.
In their own words:
"What makes us unique is our backgrounds. Ben is the musician and I'm
the teacher. Neither one of us could do this alone."
Ben has toured with bands ranging from Dave Matthews Band to
Collective Soul. He was a product specialist for Fender Musical
Instrument Corporation, the world's leading guitar manufacturer. He later
became the youngest district sales manager in that company's history.
After leaving Fender he focused on teaching music, primarily guitar, full
time.
Jess got her experience in a more traditional fashion -- she went to school
for it. She earned her Master’s in Education at Portland State University
after receiving her undergrad degree from Cornell College, In Mt. Vernon,
Iowa.
After graduation she worked for the Hillsboro School District as a middle
school teacher. "The minute I walked into my first classroom, I knew I was
home," she says. Jess has been lauded for her work in the classroom,
including receiving a Teacher Appreciation award from the Optimists in
2004, and having a feature article written by The Oregonian about her
teaching in 2006.
